Low-note tracking
Help the tuner hear the low B
Very low fundamentals are easier to read when the signal is clean and the overtones are controlled.
Use a gentle pluck
Pluck near the neck with moderate force. A hard attack creates extra overtones and a brief sharp pitch.
Wait for the sustain
Adjust after the attack fades and the displayed note becomes stable, especially on B0 and E1.

How to tune a 5-string bass
Work from the low B upward, then repeat the full pass after the neck tension settles.

Standard five-string bass tuning is B0 E1 A1 D2 G2 from low to high. It adds a low B below four-string E A D G tuning.
Why is the low B harder to detect?
B0 is only 30.87 Hz, and small microphones may capture its overtones more strongly than its fundamental. Mute the other strings and wait for the note to settle.
Can I use a four-string bass tuner for five strings?
It can tune E A D G, but it does not provide a dedicated B0 target. This page includes all five targets and the correct octave for the low B.
